Meet the Members of the State Action Team
Alfredo Lopez-Ibarra, President
The first question that everyone asks is why the hyphenated last name, the reason is that I was born in Mexico City and I guess that is how they do it there. I am a student at Globe University in Woodbury, MN; my anticipated date of graduation is March of 2009, when I will be receiving my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. I am employed by a printing company in Minneapolis, and I plan to stay with them after I graduate. My 3 year goal is to at least have started a graduate program to receive an MBA or a Master's Degree in Human Resources.
After taking a big break after high school I returned to school and during my first year Delta Epsilon Chi was introduced to my campus, immediately I knew that I wanted to be a part of it, even when I didn't know what it was. My first year I was elected the Chapter President, and with the help and support of my advisor we started a successful chapter with just five members. During my first year I finished top six in Business Ethics and Human Resources both at the Saint Cloud Invitational and CDC in Duluth, I received the student services award, attended ICDC in Orlando and placed 2nd in Human Resources Management. The second year I was once again elected as Chapter President, this time I placed 2nd Human Resources in Saint Cloud Invitational, 1st at the CDC, and then again 2nd in Atlanta at the ICDC, I received the student services award and I was humbled to have received the prestigious Honors award (1 of 6 in the country), and to finish it off I was elected Minnesota's State President for the 2008-2009 year .
Over the next year, I will promote Delta Epsilon Chi proudly and will place the state of Minnesota as a top priority as the rest of the action team and myself work hard at completing our POW. I will take every opportunity to learn something new and grow personally and professionally through the organization, I will have fun, smile, be professional and challenge obstacles placed in front of me.
Brent Dahl, Executive Vice President
This will be my second year as a member of Delta Epsilon Chi. When I first heard about Delta Epsilon Chi I just gave it a second thought and went back to my school work. But I soon realized how important this organization really is and how it can benefit my future.
Before Delta Epsilon Chi I served as the class treasurer throughout my high school years and even Class President my senior year. I also was a store manager of the local grocery store. Those experiences and the things I learn in Delta Epsilon Chi will help me create a happy and fulfilling future for myself. I now get the greatest honor working with an action team that is very loyal to this organization and I hope to help them make this year be an extremely successful one.
Delta Epsilon Chi has helped me become more of a leader and more of a speaker. Before Delta Epsilon Chi I was the kind of person who would just enjoy sitting in the corner and watch the people around me have fun, I was a shy person. But because of Delta Epsilon Chi I can now see myself being apart of that group and not sitting in the back ground. This organization can help anyone be it is public speaking but also helping them get to meet people. Through Delta Epsilon Chi you not only get to meet people for the joy of meeting but you also have a chance to meet someone who very well could be your next employer, and that is what makes it so exciting.
Amanda "Mandy" Haag, Vice President of Chapter Management
The goals I set for myself this year is to really reach out to people and branch out. I am a very outgoing person and I plan on staying that way! One of my weaknesses is when I have an opportunity to do something awesome, I immediately said in my head "No way, I can't do that, this is totally not for me, I am not right for this job!" I am trying to get out of my comfort zone and just jump into the pool of opportunities. DEX is a very important program and very helpful in our education, in our business aspects and for personal gain as well. Therefore, I want to make the most of it.
My other goals for this year are to do the best of my abilities at being the Vice President of Chapter Management, to be a good listener and to work as hard as I can. I want to grow personally and give myself an esteem boost so that I can feel better about myself; I want to reach out to other people and help them as much as I can to get them to grow in any aspect of their lives.
Amy Mercil, Vice President of Business Partnerships
I'm 21 years old and this is my first experience with college and DEX. One of the first days of class this semester, I found myself sitting in on a meeting about being a member of DEX, and before I knew it, I was on the State Action Team!
Growing up in a small town and being homeschooled, opportunities to get involved were in short supply. However, I have always wanted to get involved and when I realized DEX does just that, my enthusiasm grew! How DEX gets people involved is amazing; and not just anyone, but COLLEGE STUDENTS! We have causes to support, money to raise, community involvement to procure...DEX does it all! I am very proud to be a member of Delta Epsilon Chi, and honored to serve on the State Action Team.
John Fode, Vice President of Public Relations
When I joined DECA in high school, I finally found something I was really dedicated to and had passion for.
Before I joined DECA or Delta Epsilon Chi, I couldn't stand up in front of a group, yet through various activities with the organization I have overcome that fear. Overcoming the fear just adds to my enthusiasm for this organization. Delta Epsilon Chi is an important part of my life right now. I'm really excited to serve as member on this year's State Action Team.
A good friend of mine once said "the key of a good leader is having a vision, a mission, and a passion." I believe that, and so I bring that belief to my term as a state officer. I believe that the 2008-2009 State Action Team can build upon the work and success of the previous team, so we can give something back to this great organization.
Steve Peterson, Vice President of Recruitment and Retention
I am honored to be your Vice President of Recruitment and Retention in 2008-2009. After a few years since high school and a deployment or two in between this is my second year in DEX and my second year in Mankato at South Central College for Marketing Management.
I am amazed to look back at last year and think about the great people I met and the things I have learned that says just how great this organization is and what it has already done for me.
I am proud to be a member of DEX because I know the benefits and experience this offers me and the most important part is meeting all the great people that makes this fun.
This year is sure to be exciting and fulfilling for our members. We have a great officer team that is ready to lead our state and guide our chapters to success. I hope all of you enjoy this year and get to know us, as we hope to meet, lead and serve you and our state.
Our team moto is:
"Coming together is a beginning,
staying together is progress,
and working together is success."
