Christopher Hughes

When I started College in 1994 at Duluth Business University, honestly there was quite a bit of turmoil in my personal life, and I wasn’t sure where I was going.

I told myself I was going to give this “college thing” my best shot. So I buckled down and concentrated on my studies, and did phenomenal in school. However my home life was falling apart, and could not see the value of continuing with my education, and debated dropping out.

I pushed forward into the next quarter and registered for some Sales and Marketing classes. This is when I met Jay Belcastro. He was a new instructor for Marketing, and quite a breath of fresh air. He was energetic, and you could honestly tell that he loved teaching. He convinced the school, and the students to start the first Delta Epsilon Chi chapter at DBU. I became involved and was elected Vice-President of our chapter. Shortly there after, Jay convinced me that I would be a perfect candidate to run for State Officer, and off I went on the campaign trail.

In February 1995, less than a year after I contemplated giving up on school, I became State Parliamentarian, on a team that went on to become “The Dream Team”.

As I look back now over my accomplishments, I can honestly say, if it wasn’t for Jay introducing me to DEX, and if I did not have the honor of meeting Glenice, I have no idea where I would be.

DEX prepared me for Corporate America better than any textbook ever could; I have made some of the best friends you could ever imagine, I have contacts in almost every state, and have truly come out of my shell and become a better person.

I am indebted for life to the organization, with only one ambition, to make a difference.
